Look out for Rustie, The Glasgow kid with the hottest sound for 2007. Equally inspired by Drexciya, southern hip-hop and grime, Rustie has already released two aquatic electro 12″s as one half of Voltaic on fellow Glaswegian label Point. One and has played alongside legends Lory D, Errorsmith, Diplo and Neil Landstrumm. His debut ep on Stuffrecords kicks off with the mighty ‘Clipper’, where Neptunes style hip-hop beats get busy with bad ass grime bass lines. The sinister title track ‘Jagz The Smack’ takes London’s dubstep sound on a late night bus journey through Glasgow’s Southside, injecting a dose of funk along the way. We then stop for a brief chopped up hip-hop interlude called ‘Crooked’. Side B kicks with the insanely heavy ‘Pendulum’, a live favourite featuring Drexciya tinged electro and old school Belgian rave stabs. Then it all comes to an end with the unruly grime meets dubstep fusion of ‘Response’ where chopped up string samples and colossal basslines collide to stunning effect!!
