“UK Funky is a genre out of England that emerged a couple of years ago as the Grime scene went into decline and started going out of fashion with some people. It’s been described pretty accurately by Bok Bok as “Grime in disguise” and to be fair it’s a lot of the old Grime producers pushing the buttons on this stuff. Essentially it’s a form of House music with strong African and UK elements (kinda like Mujava’s Township Funk). Some of it echoes US House legends like Masters At Work or the even the Africanism stuff by DJ Gregory but the tracks on this podcast are a bit more “manly” (with the exception of Do You Mind). 40 Minutes Of Funkyish features a lot of the tracks at the moment by Roska, Lil’ Silva, Donaeo etc. before veering off into some Dubstep tracks that kinda remind me of the Funky vibes.” – Jackmaster, December 2008
