It’s a warm, grey, April evening. I’m leaning against a wall at the edge of a deserted children’s playground in East London while Deadboy – South London producer Allen Wooton – perches on a seesaw for our photographer. He then has a go on the swings, stands against a few colourful walls, chats about his t-shirt.

Deadboy – HERE is out now
Since his first sell out 12’s ‘If U Want Me’ and ‘U Cheated’ over a year ago, Deadboy has been busy DJing and developing his productions through remixes for the likes of Jamie Woon, Drake and Cassie – with Drake even recently proclaiming ‘Deadboy is ill’ in a radio interview (see the Firework’s slo mo-house edit for why even Drake haters can’t argue).
Of course on HERE there’s Deadboy’s trademark heartaching vocal fragments, consuming bass warmth and skipping percussion but there’s a further development on his much imitated style.
Deadboy – HERE (NMBRS15)
–
1. Wish U Were Here
2. Here 4 U
3. Ain’t Gonna Lie
A-side track ‘Wish U Were Here’ draws inspiration his collection of disco and house during it’s epic 9 minutes – shifting, gliding synths, ecstasy-fueled breakdowns and a rolling groove that begs to be listened to from beginning to end… it’s like south London garage heads taking tips from Miami.
Here 4 U’s arresting vocal hook set in broken house and Ain’t Gonna Lie’s seductive ping pong infused garage are naturally smeared all over with a dark, wry wit that comes natural to our man from Brockley. Don’t sleep on one of Deadboy’s strongest releases to date.
