This news has been bubbling for a while, but now it’s official. Three of Glasgow’s best known dance labels have combined to become one.
Wireblock is probably the best known of the three labels; ran by Jack ‘Jackmaster’ Revill and brothers Calum and Neil Morton, it’s released acclaimed singles like Rustie’s ‘Zig Zag’ and Bad Science EP, as well as cult dancefloor fillers from Emvee, Ghosts on Tape and Lory D. Dress 2 Sweat is Jackmaster’s label that started as an outlet to release Baltimore house edits, and evolved into a home for Starkey, Piddy Py, Bok Bok & L-Vis 1990 and more. Stuff is commandeered by Richard Chater, and put out perhaps the most iconic release of all three labels in Rustie’s Jagz the Smack EP, as well as wax from The Village Orchestra, 2562 and Slugabed.
Anyway, these labels are now no more, as they’ve united under the name Numbers (the name of the club night members of all three labels run in Glasgow). Two Numbers 12″s are penciled in for released this year. The first will be Low Limit and Lando Kal’s Golden Handshake EP, presented by much-hyped Californian nut jobs Lazer Sword, while the second is the debut release from Redinho, who Tom Lea recently tipped in his Month in…Bass column.
If tracklists on recent Jackmaster and Modeselektor sets are anything to go by, you can expect future Numbers releases from London producers Deadboy and Kavsrave, and we’re sure it won’t be long ’til we hear contributions from long-term friends of the label like Rustie and Hudson Mohawke.
