Feadz & Smith N’ Hack – Skinny Review

Continuing its fledgling Sub Club residency, February’s Numbers sees Parisien DJ/producer Feadz of Edbanger/BPitch fame and Berlin-duo Smith N Hack join resident Goodhand. There has been a serious buzz on forums in the run-up to tonight, with many planning it as their first club outing of 2008. As it turns out they couldn’t have picked a better occasion to blow away the clubbing cobwebs. The clean-cut duo of Errorsmith and Soundstream/Soundhack aka Smith N Hack takes over from Goodhand, giving us an hour-long live set of their own warped, dark-set disco. Combining Moroder-ish basslines, vocodered vocals and electro squelches it reaches a brilliant climax with their own incessant, brass-blasting re-rub of Herbert’s Moving Like A Train. It was going to take something a bit special to match the Germans’ efforts, but the baseball-capped Feadz seems up to the task. Whipping his way feverishly through electro, techno and house, the Frenchman throws in a heavy dose of classics – Mr Fingers’ Can You Feel It, Hardrive’s Deep Inside and Energy Flash by Joey Beltram – to an enthusiastic, sweat-sticky crowd who aren’t shy to show their appreciation.
